Freedom and Privacy

I am much more concerned about loss of freedom than than loss of privacy. If we live a truly free society than all of my actions can be known without it having a negative effect on me. One right I do not believe a person possesses is the right to harm a fellow person and I think that institutions governmental or otherwise should take steps to prevent this. One such step could be searching people for weapons before entering a public place. Fortunately for me, one right I do believe a person possess is the right to do whatever he pleases to his own body. Ensuring the former without preventing the latter becomes very complicated. Unfortunately, our government does not agree with me about the latter human right which results in laws which make suicide and certain drugs illegal. If the government wants to make our lives more transparent, like being aware of our whereabouts, purchases, information consumption, etc. in an attempt to prevent us from committing harm against each other, I am ok with that. But when these attempts are extrapolated to prevent a thing like the consumption of psychedelic substances...

This site posts postcards people send it with secrets on them. It is bizarrely the 3rd most popular blog on technorati with 13653 links. I am, of course, perpetuating that bizarre stature which must makes the site deserving of its popularity. Or does it? Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd. I especially like this one BOOGERS.JPG

electro semetic clezmer

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending an Orhtodox Jewish Syrian Morocan Wedding in Borough Park Brooklyn New York. After the very Traditional, minus the obtrusive camara crew, ceremony, The Bride and Groom left the party to have 'family time', while the guests dinned buffet style on great Jew food; sexes separated of course. Seriously. When the bride and groom returned there was much horah dancing to djed electro semetic clezmer music. Still separte sexes, Seriosuly. The Bride and Groom are 19 years old. This was their 5th time meeting and 'family time' was the first time they have been alone together or touched or possibley even touched an unrelated member of the opposite sex.
Thinking about my formative teenage years without the , flirting and fooling around is unfathomable. I find this clashing of Moderm Culture and Religion to be extremely interesting but I also get the feeling that it is not something new. In fact, I would venture to say that this clashing has probobly existed as long as religion has existed. I bet that Jews in Ancient Rome experienced a similar clashing.

Corporate Industrio-Academia

Tomorrow I start a new gig developing a web app for college admisions departments. The company is super small and I'll be Telecommuting, working from home or anywhere else in world with internet.
I've spent the past couple months working on the ecommerce site for my 'academic services company'. Primarily, we sell papers to college students. With proper marketing and promotion this business has the potentail to be extremely succesful given the current climate of corporate industrio-academia.
